How to Replace a Washer Boot on a Washing Machine - Start to Finish on a Maytag 2000 Series
Today's video will show you the entire process of replacing a washer boot seal on a washing machine. This is quite a difficult, frustrating, and time consuming procedure to complete; but in the end we'll show you how to save a few hundred dollars by doing this yourself.
The particular washing machine that we are working on today is a MayTag 2000 Series, specifically the MWHE200XW00. To work on this machine, I needed the following tools:
- 1/4" socket wrench
- T20 Torx drive
- Phillips Screw Driver
- Flat screwdrivers or other tools for prying
- Spare 2x4 blocks (optional)
I found my washer boot seal on Amazon by first searching Google with my model number. After locating a parts diagram, I was able to find the exact part number of my boot.
Let me know how this process went for you and if you have any tips for others!

This video helped me out so much! My dryer is stacked on top of my washer and i didnt really want to take out all the screws of the top and front pannel to inspect it and see if i needed to change it, but after taking bottom pannel off i realized the secondary Spring on the back side of the Washer Boot wasnt even on!! It was just free hanging!! Im 90% sure thats why my washer has been leaking from the door for soo long. There are very very minor tears in the boot so i dont think ill replace it but with the front wire off of the boot and the bottom panel off i was able to tighten the secondary spring with a small screw driver

I think this is the best video on this subject I've seen so far (and I'm looking at a LOT of them). Thanks for being so clear in your description, have good visuals, and instill confidence that this is doable. I do agree with one of the other commenters to not fill the tank all the way when you're testing for leaks after you're done. I like something I heard from some video on UA-cam...when it comes to metal vs porcelain, metal wins every time. I will totally check out your other videos and probably subscribe. Thanks!!! ❤☮🌎

Hey mind was terrible too with the black mold stains, but I soaked in a 2 or 3 table of swimming pool cleaner call shock. It's 2 or 3 kind I use 58% of bleach that way it can soak all nite but 70% is 6 to 8 hrs but definitely not all night it will rid anything organic and dirt comes out looking yur new light Grey powdered look so I wipe it down with vinegar rinse an followed that armored all.

Step 5 is the hardest step, and you kind of just skipped over it. Often those bolts are rusted and corroded to hell, and you need a hacksaw blade to cut them.

I would skip the upper cylinder lubricant, just fill the oil and pull the engine over a dozen times or so before adding fuel. there is no oil pump in these small engines they are splash lubricated. Dont forget you are bedding the engine in, you dont want to glaze the bores or it will drink oil. Use mineral oil at first & change it after a hour or so Then i would start putting a load on it, dont go straight to full load, vary it to give it chance to bed in. Once you get to about 50 hours running time you should be good to go. Mine has about 250 hours on it & runs well without burning oil.

P.S Buy a spare spark plug as the original will likely be a chinese "torch" brand and will pack up quickly. The other thing to look out for is the mesh spark arrestor on the end of the exhaust, they clog up fast. i took mine off after about 20 hours run time as it was clogged !

Thanks !! followed to the letter, even the drink after! For the ring at the end, i pryed open a little one end that holds the spring, and had my two kids hold the ring around and used long nose plyers to put the spring back in . Worked like a charm in under 5 mins! Suscribed to your channel for future help, Cheers!!

Question please help. I took the gasket out cleaned it well(it was so filthy) i out the gasket back on, on the inside. Clamped it down, but the sping deal on. Then i out the outer spring on. But it was only washing half our clothes. I think the soap tube or whatever tube that releases water.. i think that it shoots water into the maching but also inside of the gasket. I fucked with it but it wont seem to be in the right spot. I wonder if i should out a dyi scrap type of peice so the water goes where it needs to. I cleaned the trap out to and found socks and quarters. It was hella dirty. Long story short i did pretty much everything you did except that soap/water dispenser seems to be shooting the water in the machine and inside the gasket. Has anyone else ran into this?

I have the same washer as in the video with the same problem, your video helped greatly, thanks, also I ordered the Boot from Amazon and the Up and Down Tabs were marked wrong, the holes on the Boot go Down but the Boot was marked as Up....one more thing after fighting with getting it stretched on the rim, I used a little plumbers grease and it went right on, Don't use Vaseline as in contains petroleum and may damage the gasket

I would highly recommend not putting the metal washers inside with the rubber washer of the bowl. All you need is the bolt with the rubber washer. If you do it the way set up in the video, there’s a likelihood of it leaking through the threads onto the ground.

I really like your cat. However, I don't think indicated break-in procedure is correct. I'd suggest a different procedure for those who are very anal about their small internal combustion engines. As shown in video, put upper cylinder lubricant. Then fill engine with special break-in oil (low detergent, high ZDDP). Start the engine, run it for 2 minutes with no load. Shut it off, let it cool down naturally for 20 minutes. Start the engine again, run it 3 minutes with no load. Shut it off, let it cool down naturally for 25 minutes. Start the engine again, let it run 5 minutes with no load. Shut it off, let it cool down naturally for 25 minutes. And now, start the engine, let it run with no load for a few tens of seconds, then put 20-30% load on the generator, depending on its output power rating. If possible, vary the load but do not exceed 30%. Run it for approx 1 hour. Switch it off, let it cool down completely naturally. Afterwards, start the engine, apply electric load approx 40-60% of rated output power. Run for about 1 hour varying the load. Again, shut it off, let it cool naturally. On final run, start the engine, put 60-90% load of rated output power, vary the load. Run for 1 hour. At this point, drain your break-in oil. Pour it fresh oil which you're going to use and add about 30% of break in oil to it. Start using your generator for normal duties but remember to change the oil after 5 hours of use. After you change the oil, put the regular oil you're going to use without adding any additives to it. By this time, your engine will be almost fully broken in, saying you 'thanks' by providing long service life. Having magnetic fill plug really helps. And of course, use highest octane fuel you can reasonably get. Ethanol free. Good luck.

I actually only came here for replacing the retaining spring in the outer seal and you are the first one to actually show where it needs to go and how the seal itself aligns. Thank you! Also thanks for confirming that it is the worst part lol. I didn't take washer apart completely but did take the door off to access the stupid water filter, and of all of it this spring is the only difficult part

This helped SOOO MUCH!! Thank you for making this video! I watched a few vids before this one that helped a little. I knew it wasn’t the flapper, it was the 2nd problem. The floaty bit seemed to be stuck too high, so the water kept running & trickling down the overflow pipe. Before watching this I got it unstuck, but didn’t know to flush it or that I needed to adjust it with a screwdriver, so it kept running. As soon as the hubby gets outta the shower I will give it a try & update whether I fixed it or not!!

By the time he got outta the shower it had stopped running.. however I opened the back to show the hubby what it was I adjusted & touched it too hard, making it start running again.. so I flushed it & now I’m waiting for it to finish filling up. … … And it stopped!!! Woot woot!!! You are the friggin best!! Thank you so much for taking the time outta your day to make this video & share your knowledge!! You saved me a plumbers bill for something as simple as jiggling a thing & flushing, not to mention an extensive water bill. Plus, I learned something new! All the toilet problems I’ve had before were either clogs or the flapper wasn’t sealing properly. This was a great learning experience thanks to you! 🫶🏻
